This science website is divided into four major categories, i.e., Science Research, Science Websites, Science Reviews and Science Insights.

The Science Insights category provides information, insights and definitions about specific subjects in the life and earth sciences. It currently includes 47 topics ranging from “Historic and current aspects of RoundUp” to those of “The bacteria KPC (Klebsiella Pneumoniae Carbapenemases)”.

Among these subjects is one insight into the Durian tree (Durio sp.) which has received considerable traffic through major Internet search engines. This article primarily covers agronomic aspects of Durian cultivation including irrigation, fertilization and recommended protection practices against major pests and diseases. Since scientific classification of Durians has still not been established, the review includes taxonomic details of Durian species. It also covers attempts to isolate volatile compounds which are reason for the unique odor of Durian fruits which are so popular (“king of fruits”) in Southeast Asia.

EurekaMag.com was launched in November 1998 and has emerged as a comprehensive aggregator of content in biology, in the applied life sciences agriculture, horticulture and forestry, in the earth sciences, in the environmental sciences, and in the health sciences.

Users who wish to submit their own or their company’s content for inclusion in EurekaMag.com are welcome to submit their listing to one of the 13,705 categories. The site maintains a number of RSS feeds including one “Most Shared” feed which enables users to subscribe to their most favorite topics within the site. For better public exposure of EurekaMag.com the site also maintains and continuously updates accounts at Twitter (“@EurekaMag”), MySpace, Facebook and FeedBurner.

Mannheim, Germany (PRWEB) September 12, 2011

EurekaMag.com was originally launched in November 1998 as the online version of the French science magazine “Eur?ka – Le magazine des sciences” published by Bayard since 1995. During the past two decades, it has emerged as a major aggregator of scientific information in biology, in the applied life sciences agriculture, horticulture and forestry, in the earth sciences, in the environmental sciences, and in the health sciences.

The high-traffic (ca. 50,000 hits per day) website includes one science research category which features over 36m references in the natural sciences. The category provides scholary information and links to peer-reviewed papers, research articles, theses, books, abstracts, and other scholarly literature on the basic and applied life, earth and health sciences.

Two other categories provide definitions and information for a total of ca. 1.1m scientific keywords and science keyphrases popular in the biological and geographical sciences, and on the health sciences.

Biology is the scientific study of life examining the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of organisms. It describes and classifies organisms, discovers how they evolved, and explains the interactions they have with each other and with the natural environment. The site features the many disciplines of biology including botany, zoology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, ecology, cell theory, evolution, gene theory, homeostasis, and taxonomy.

Horticulture is the art, science or practice of producing garden plants (fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables, flowers, trees, shrubs, and turf) to improve crop yield, quality, nutritional value, and resistance to insect pests, diseases, and environmental stresses. We provide information about their propagation, production, breeding, genetic engineering, biochemistry and physiology including postharvest, storage, processing, and transportation. The extensive horticulture section focusses on the cultivation and production of primary and secondary fruit and vegetable species. The “fruits” category focusses on the aspects of the cultivation and production of temperate, subtropical and tropical fruits, and includes numerous references to viticulture and enology, the science and technology of tablegrapes and winemaking. The “vegetables” category presents scientific and commercial aspects of the cultivation and production of vegetables including those of bamboo agronomy.

The forestry category covers the art, science or practice of managing forests and related natural resources. it provides information about growing and tending of trees and forests to provide timber as raw material for wood products, and to manage wildlife habitats, natural water supply, recreation, landscape and community protection, biodiversity, watershed, and sinks for atmospheric carbon dioxide.

The environment category provides scientific and other information on aspects of environmental protection, natural heritage conservation, sustainable living, environmental impact of technologies, and global environmental change.

The society category covers the interactions of the life sciences and agricultural technology with the broader society. Topics include policy about science and technology, ethics in science and technology, societal groups, legal applications of science and technology, speculations about future science and technology, and the proper use and misuse of the life sciences and technologies in commerce and public.

The health category focuses on topics related to human and animal health, and medicine.

The recently republished online science magazine EurekaMag.com traditionally provided comprehensive definitions and scientific information in the basic and applied life, earth and health sciences. It now includes a new category to provide shorter, one-page reviews of scientific terms.

While the Life-and-Earth-Sciences Magazine was earlier divided into four major categories, i.e., Science Research, Science Websites, Science Keywords and Keyphrases, and Science Subjects, it just published another section termed Life-and-Earth-Sciences Reviews.

The Life-and-Earth-Sciences Reviews category provides more compact information, insights and definitions about specific scientific topics. While articles in its Life-and-Earth-Sciences Keyword and Life-and-Earth-Sciences Keyphrase categories are comprehensive and up to several pages in length, articles in the new Reviews category are only one page long and, consequently, more suitable to get a quick overview of the scientific topic researched. Users are advised to consult the Life-and-Earth-Sciences Reviews category to quickly get familiar with the subject and subsequently refer to the Science Keywords and Keyphrases categories for a more comprehensive review of the scientific subject. This new category contains nearly 1.1m compact articles which act as abstracts of the comprehensive reviews in the Keyword and Keyphrase categories of the Science Magazine.

Among the scientific subjects covered in both categories is one insight into “Alveofact”. Alveofact is a commercial drug containing the active ingredient Bovactant which is an extract of bovine lung commonly used as an artificial surfactant. While the comprehensive review in the Life-and-Earth-Sciences Keyword category contains two webpages and 1,602 words, the shorter Alveofact Life-and-Earth-Sciences Review in the new category extends to only one webpage with 931 words.

EurekaMag.com was launched in November 1998 and has emerged as a comprehensive aggregator of content in biology, in the applied life sciences agriculture, horticulture and forestry, in the earth sciences, in the environmental sciences, and in the health sciences. During the end of 2010 it received ca. 40,000 page impressions per day but was republished after a change of ownership in early 2011.

Users who wish to submit their own or their company’s content for inclusion in EurekaMag.com are welcome to submit their listing to one or more of the 13,705 categories. The site maintains a number of RSS feeds including one “Most Shared” feed which enables users to subscribe to news in their most favorite science topics within the site. For better public exposure the site also maintains and constantly updates accounts at Twitter (“@EurekaMag”), MySpace, Facebook and FeedBurner.
