The Agriculture and Horticulture category of the Life-Sciences Magazine currently contains nearly 78,000 articles. A great part of these contributions derive from ca. 250 international scientific journals covering these two applied life sciences.
The latest inclusions deal with ethical and environmental implications of finfish aquaculture, development of PCR-based markers for genotyping Waxy genes in common millet (Panicum miliaceum) and extraction of polyphenolic fractions of the green leafy vegetables, Vernonia amygdalina and Gongronema latifolium. Other newly published research papers cover the anti-proliferative effect of Melissa officinalis on human colon cancer and the potential of Fe and Mn agents to suppress the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum during biological soil disinfestation.
The science website Life-Sciences.net has been established to discover and share scholarly and popular content in the basic and applied life and earth sciences including biology, agriculture, forestry, the environmental sciences, and the health sciences.
The site’s content is divided into “Digg-style” “Popular” and “Upcoming” sections. While content in the “Upcoming” section is rarely older than a few minutes, the “Popular” section contains articles submitted ca. 20-60 minutes ago. All categories feature RSS Feeds for both “popular” and “upcoming” resources. At the same time, all categories as well as all articles can easily be bookmarked with the AddThis Sharing buttons which include the increasingly popular Google+1 button.
The website newly features a “Top Content” sidebar which includes the most actively read and shared articles.
Life-Sciences.net maintains a Twitter account (@Life_Sciences_) which currently features 70,153 tweets and 1,023 followers. The Agriculture category is represented by Twitter’s @AgricultureMag.
