Kathy Scheiern, Owner and President of San Francisco consulting firm PurposeWorks LLC, is a co-author of The Gratitude Book Project: Celebrating 365 Days of Gratitude, a collaborative book sold on Amazon.com featuring over 300 authors answering the question ?What are you grateful for?? in 200 words or less.
The book shares compelling stories of appreciation and evidence that harnessing the power of gratitude can be a life-changing force. The difference between saying thank you?good manners?and living in gratitude?great life skill?are illustrated in moving pieces.
There?s a mom who thinks of irritations as blessings and another who gives thanks to muscular dystrophy. There are narratives about how wrinkles, not fitting in and suffering came to be embraced. There?s even gratitude for ex-husbands and ?ugly gifts.?
Celebrating 365 Days of Gratitude is not only full of thanks but also brimming over with testimonials to the people, things, events, and circumstances we so often take for granted.
Kathy Scheiern made four contributions to the book. One to her mother for the gift of life and one to her father for his honesty and his faith. She also contributed an entry about being grateful for everything! And her final entry was about being grateful for the simple lessons of a walk in the woods.
?Gratitude is a powerful force for good in the world, something we don?t exercise often enough in our lives.? Scheiern said. ?When you think about it, all of us can be deeply grateful for the simple fact that we are alive!? Scheiern went on to say, ?I wanted to be a part of this project because I am very grateful for my life?the ups AND the downs. I hope this project inspires others to find more reasons to feel gratitude in their own lives.?
In keeping with the spirit of the project, net proceeds from national book sales will be split among three charitable organizations: Feeding America, Women for Women International and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

Boulder, Colo. (PRWEB) December 12, 2011
The Organic Center today announced the release of a comprehensive shopper?s guide, Organic Essentials, designed to help shoppers reduce their pesticide risk, eat foods that contain the most nutrients and avoid GMOs. The Organic Center is a leading research and education institute focused on the science of organic food and farming.
The pocket guide was developed using The Organic Center?s “Dietary Risk Index” (DRI), which calculates the dietary risks associated with pesticide residues found in different foods tested by the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The rankings are determined after analyzing the frequency of pesticide residues on a given food, the average level of residues found and their toxicity. Pesticide residue data from the USDA and toxicity data from the Environmental Protection Agency are used in calculating the DRI.
While the pocket guide can be used year-round, it is even more important to utilize in the winter months when the majority of produce is imported from abroad. Based on The Organic Center?s 2008 report, “Simplifying the Pesticide Risk Equation: The Organic Option,” imported produce can pose pesticide risks between two to three times higher than produce grown in the U.S.
?The pocket guide is meant to be a go-to resource for shoppers to more easily maximize their intake of health-promoting foods while minimizing their exposure to toxic synthetic pesticides and GMOs,? said Sara Snow, green lifestyle expert and board member of The Organic Center. ?Such a resource is especially helpful during the holiday season when budgets are tight and consumers are looking for ways to determine what items to purchase organic. By using the guide as a resource, families can more easily stay within budget while still eating foods that are both good for their health and good for the planet.?
The following fruits and vegetables consistently rank the highest for pesticide residue and therefore should always be purchased organic:
Fruit:
1.Cranberries
2.Strawberries
3.Apples????
4.Peaches????
5.Pears????
6.Cantaloupe
7.Tomatoes
8.Nectarines
9.Blueberries????????
Vegetables:
1. Green Beans
2. Sweet Bell Peppers
3. Kale
4. Sweet Potatoes
5. Collard Greens
6. Summer Squash
7. Potatoes
8. Spinach
9. Mushrooms
In addition to ranking the pesticide risk of a variety of fruits and vegetables, the pocket guide also provides other important organic facts and figures, including:
?The list of the top super foods with the highest nutrients per serving includes:
Fruits ? Raspberries, Strawberries, Blueberries, Pumpkins, Mangoes, and Papayas
Vegetables ? Kale, Collard Greens, Artichokes, Turnips, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, Asparagus, and Avocadoes
?A list of conventional foods to avoid buying due to the likelihood that they are genetically modified or contain GMOs include: Corn, Canola, Soy Beans, Cotton, Hawaiian Papaya, Sugar Beets, Yellow Crookneck Squash, and Zucchini
Because little to no independent scientific research has been published about the long-term health and environmental effects of genetically modified foods, The Organic Center opposes their use in the U.S. This is consistent with 30-plus countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the European Union countries, each of whom has significant restrictions or outright bans on the production of GE crops. Consumer support for this shift can also be seen through the newly formed Just Lable It campaign and the Right2Know March, which saw thousands of Americans march from New York City to Washington, D.C. to demand that all genetically modified foods in the U.S. be labeled.
To download the free Shopper?s Guide and start shopping better now, please visit The Organic Center?s website at http://www.generationsoforganic.org/in-the-kitchen/pocket-guide/.
About The Organic Center
The Organic Center’s unique mission is to conduct credible, evidence-based science on the health and environmental benefits of organic food and farming and to communicate them to the public. As an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) research and education organization, we envision improved health for the world and its people through organic production. All of The Organic Center’s research reports, publications, consumer guides, and videos are available free at http://www.organic-center.org and http://www.generationsoforganic.org.

Marina Del Rey, CA (PRWEB) December 08, 2011
Marina Plastic Surgery Associates is now offering FDA-approved XEOMIN, an additive-free BOTOX Cosmetic alternative. As with BOTOX and many of the other treatments for skin care for Los Angeles patients at Marina Plastic Surgery, XEOMIN minimizes wrinkles to make faces smoother and more aesthetically pleasing. As an added benefit, patients will not become resistant to XEOMIN as they sometimes do to BOTOX.
Dr. Grant Stevens, a renowned board-certified plastic surgeon whose specializations include facelift in Los Angeles, says, “This is a great addition to our facial rejuvenation arsenal because, over time, some people become resistant to BOTOX because of the additives it includes. This causes it to lose its effectiveness for those individuals. In addition, although BOTOX is an excellent product, XEOMIN costs much less. According to the studies, it may last longer, a bonus for the right patient.”
XEOMIN, like BOTOX, is a proven treatment for crow?s feet, smoker?s lines, neck bands and hyperhidrosis (excessive perspiration under the arms, on the feet and hands and in other areas). For many patients in Los Angeles, BOTOX Cosmetic will continue to be most beneficial, while for others, XEOMIN may be a better choice, Dr. Stevens says.
“Because we offer so many options, we are able to treat patients with a wide range of concerns and goals,? Dr. Stevens says. ?For example, for people with well-defined wrinkles or creases who want a ‘non-surgical face lift,’ we have a choice of several injectable fillers in addition to XEOMIN.
“The fillers available today are light years ahead of collagen and other fillers from several decades ago. Treatment is easier, the results can be better tailored, and the span between follow-up treatments is extended. While the science has not evolved enough to make surgical facelifts obsolete, our patients can achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance in just one short office visit. I’m delighted to add XEOMIN to our menu of treatments.”
Injectable fillers can rejuvenate multiple problem areas such as smile lines, vertical lip lines and facial hollows. They can be used instead of ? or in addition to ? facial surgery.
“A non-surgical procedure such as XEOMIN isn’t going to be right for everyone,” Dr. Stevens says. “In some cases, only a surgical procedure can provide the degree of tightening and lifting that a patient needs to achieve the results they want. But even in these cases, it’s increasingly common to combine a plastic surgery procedure with injectables for added enhancement.”
Dr. Grant Stevens is the medical director of Marina Plastic Surgery Associates (http://www.marinaplasticsurgery.com) in Marina Del Rey, CA. He is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of The American College of Surgeons and The International College of Surgeons. Dr. Stevens is the director of the USC Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship and Aesthetic Surgery Division. He is on the editorial board of The Aesthetic Surgery Journal and on the board of directors of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. An international traveling professor, Dr. Stevens was recognized by his peers as one of America’s Best Physicians in The Guide to Top Doctors. He is a past chairman of the California Medical Association Advisory Panel on Plastic Surgery. He has received the Special Congressional Certificate of Recognition and the Distinguished Service Citation from the Medical Board of California.

Tulsa, Oklahoma (PRWEB) December 04, 2011
Expert TA, an online homework and tutorial system for introductory level physics courses, has partnered with talented professors at leading universities to develop an original library of physics problems not tied to any specific textbook. These professors have years of experience in physics instruction, have proven to be innovators in the classroom, and have strong records in education research specifically as it applies to introductory physics.
In addition to authoring quality and original problems, this team is consulting with The Expert TA to improve their system features and core functionality in order to increase student learning and simplify physics class homework management. These system features include the ability to do partial credit grading of complex mathematical equations and a custom built equation entry palette.
?We are honored and excited to welcome this team of professors, and look forward to publishing the unique problem material they author. Our multi-step problems require students to go through the entire process of solving for a final numeric answer; with a focus on the fundamental equations related to the given concept. In our system students are given feedback necessary to help them master concepts, and due to our multi-step and detailed partial credit grading, instructors are given a better assessment of students work. Expert TA has also implemented strategies to keep the solutions to our problems from being cataloged, which reduces an avenue of cheating and encourages students to do independent work. The software is designed to help students master the theories presented in the classroom? says Jeremy Morton, PhD. and CEO of Expert TA.
The Expert TA welcomes the following professors to the team; Ronald Bieniek, PhD., the Director of Physics Content and a Professor at University of Missouri, Science and Technology. Simon Capstick, PhD., a Physics Professor at Florida State University. Stuart Loch, PhD., an Associate Physics Professor at Auburn University. Charles E. Hasty, PhD., a Physics faculty member at Oklahoma State University.
?The Expert TA has an integrated ability to evaluate student algebraic responses and identify algebra errors, sign errors, and trigonometric errors. Expert TA offers several significant advantages: its clean interface is intuitive to use with nearly painless equation entry, its interactive tutorial mode helps students learn content, and homework evaluation is delayed until a deadline which addresses the majority of academic integrity problems. I, as a member of my department?s textbook selection committee, would be glad to recommend Expert TA…? says Charles Hasty, PhD., a Physics faculty member at Oklahoma State University
About The Expert TA:
The Expert TA was designed to grade problems by considering more than just a student?s final answer. The Expert TA math engine allows for the evaluation of multi-step homework solutions that can allocate partial credit grading and can provide students multi-level feedback on their errors. Designed to grade physics homework as professors would, partial credit is given for sign errors, trigonometric errors, exponential and fractional mistakes: all with the ability to understand what the student did correctly. In Tutorial mode, students are given direct feedback on their solutions that provide instruction far beyond realizing whether they correctly found the answer in the back of the book. Instructors are provided with a much more accurate assessment of students? work and students are provided with the feedback required to help them master concepts.

Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) November 30, 2011
Brookline College, a multi-campus higher education company headquartered in Phoenix, announced it has received final approval for the first Master?s program in the college?s history.
The 36-credit online Master of Science in Nursing Education program prepares individuals for entry-level careers as nurse educators in academic or health care settings. The program can be completed in approximately 12 months.
?Expanding our institution to include Master?s degree offerings is a major milestone for Brookline College,? said Ed Beauchamp, President of Brookline College. ?While this is the first Master?s program offering in the history of the college, we are already considering additional Master?s degrees in other curriculum areas in 2012 and beyond.?
?We are pleased to build upon our current baccalaureate nursing programs and expand the options available to students who want to pursue a career in nursing education,? said Dr. Carol S. Kleinman, Vice President of Nursing Education at Brookline College. ?Nursing educators are critical to meet the demand for nursing programs around the country.
