Brno, Czech Republic (PRWEB) May 14, 2012

Moravia Worldwide, a leading globalization solution provider, is pleased to announce a major extension of its linguistic validation services, designed to ensure linguistic validity of translations of patient-reported-outcomes (PRO) instruments. As part of this expansion, Moravia’s Linguistic Validation Team has increased the language coverage to support global research studies in some of the newly utilized emerging countries, as well as added local subject matter experts for new therapeutic areas.

Moravia’s Linguistic Validation process, which conforms to ISPOR guidelines and FDA standards, confirms the validity of translated PRO instruments to ensure that data collected from them can be comparable across various language groups used during trials. This is achieved by verifying how the translated questionnaire is comprehensible to patients from the specific target population.

“We see a growing demand for linguistic validation, and not just in terms of translating and validating PRO instruments used in clinical trials, but increasingly also in terms of more general Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) or Quality of Life (QoL) questionnaires,” commented Alena Heisler, Moravia’s Manager of Operations, Life Sciences. “With this extension of our capabilities and our existing partnerships with leading clinical research organizations, we can support a broad range of our clients requirements using the standards and recommendations from ISPOR, ISOQOL, FDA and EMA.”

London, UK (PRWEB) May 09, 2012

The majority of psychiatry partnering deals in the biopharma industry are discovery or development stage whereby the licensee obtains a right or an option right to license the licensors psychiatry technology. These deals tend to be multicomponent, starting with collaborative R&D, and commercialization of outcomes.

Knowing the flexibility of a prospective partner?s negotiated deals terms provides critical insight into the negotiation process in terms of what is expected to be achieved during the negotiation of terms. While smaller companies will be seeking details of the payments clauses, the devil is in the detail in terms of how payments are triggered.

New research study ?Psychiatry Partnering Terms and Agreements? elaborated by CurrentPartnering has been recently published by Market Publishers Ltd.

Designed by Flad Architects, the new Koury Oral Health Sciences Building realizes the university?s vision. ?We want to see Carolina remain at the top of dental education, and this building will allow us to use innovation to its best advantage in the new educational methodology,? said Dr. Janet Guthmiller, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

The 216,000-square-foot building was envisioned as a dynamic, functional, and inspiring environment ? one capable of recruiting top-tier students and faculty and increasing the school?s visibility within the national dental community. Having experienced significant growth since its opening in 1950, a collection of five interconnected buildings had emerged over the years. Each one answered the program?s specific needs at the time, but after five decades, several renovations, and rapidly advancing technology, a new solution was necessary to provide the modern classrooms and cutting-edge research laboratories crucial to the school?s continued excellence.

The facility is composed of two wings occupying the corner of South Columbia Street and Manning Drive at the southern edge of campus. Its precise placement among the existing dental buildings links the old and new construction, unifying the complex and fostering a sense of community. The Dental Commons, a soaring sky-lit atrium on the first floor, serves as the complex?s major social center, housing a caf? for mid-day breaks and ample tiered seating to easily accommodate assemblies and events.

?One of our goals from the beginning was to create a social hub for the school, its patients, and its visitors to enjoy,? said Chuck Mummert, design architect at Flad. ?By recovering the underutilized courtyards and alleyways between existing buildings, we were able to incorporate this light-filled Dental Commons area as a space not only connecting the buildings, but the people who use them as well.?

Other key features of the project include:

A signature 220-seat grand lecture hall in the West Lobby complete with video conferencing and distance-learning technology.
Two 120-seat lecture halls, one capable of two-way distance learning.
A 105-seat simulation laboratory giving students the opportunity to learn and develop their clinical skills before providing care to patients.
Five 30-seat seminar rooms for graduate seminars and small group discussions, one equipped for distance learning via live lecture broadcasts over the Web or through direct audiovisual feed.
Laboratories characterized by movable casework allowing different arrangements as the research changes and centralized, shared support rooms for fume hoods and equipment.
Office and conference spaces.

In addition to creating better connections between the dental buildings, this facility has produced clearer, more convenient pedestrian paths that extend beyond the complex to the rest of campus. As a literal crossroads between neighboring academic, research, and healthcare facilities, the project integrates several main thoroughfares, restores green space in the Dental Quadrangle, and extends a much needed pedestrian bridge over Manning Drive linking the school to south campus. Where a clear entrance to the south end of the university had been absent, these upgrades have established a formal doorway and a fresh new identity for the School of Dentistry.

The facility employs a variety of new technologies that support resource conservation and enhanced building performance. Its design is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council?s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program and is on track to receive Silver certification. A series of ?firsts? for the campus are part of the project, including the first building to capture and use condensate water from the mechanical equipment and the first building on campus to employ fluid dynamic modeling and use smoke curtains to design the smoke evacuation system.

?The new Koury Oral Health Sciences Building will provide an impressive gateway for the university?s southern entrance. Students, faculty, and visitors will appreciate the efforts that have been made to design and construct a building that is not only attractive and functional, but also environmentally friendly,? said Dr. Ken May, Vice Dean. ?The school?s missions of education, research, and services will benefit tremendously from the broad array of facilities that this building will add to our dental complex.?

Independence, MO (PRWEB) May 02, 2012

The economic crisis, with foreclosed houses and defaulted loans, has wreaked havoc on the monetary value (equity) of our homes. This book helps homeowners understand how to lower their cost of living while increasing the hidden “Energy Equity” embedded in their homes at the same time. Even homes that are losing value can have hidden equity that will benefit a homeowner; it is just a matter of knowing how to access it.

This authoritative reference is the first book to take the concepts of building science, financial analysis, investment strategies, and real estate equity and pull them all together for the homeowner’s benefit. The Homeowner’s Guide to Home Energy Equity walks a homeowner fully through the history of this concept, the benefit to the homeowner, and the steps to follow to reclaim lost equity through energy efficiency improvements. Conversely, installing energy improvements or adding renewable energy systems, such as solar or wind, without regard to the financial implications will potentially reduce or eliminate the Energy Equity. This book will help the homeowner understand the implications and act to protect and maximize their equity investments.

Links to more information and a full example of how the process and the math works are included. If you are considering selling your home, purchasing a home, building a home or even just improving the energy efficiency of your existing home, town-home, condo, or other type of residence you should read this book before moving ahead.

The author, Ken Riead, is a chartered “Legend in Energy” by the Association of Energy Engineers and he is a certified Home Energy Rater, certified Sustainable Design Professional, senior certified Energy Manager, and senior certified Demand-Side Manager. He has a long history of consulting for state energy offices, utilities, educational, commercial and residential clients about energy efficiency and energy programs. Corning, NY (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

On June 23, 1972, Corning and the surrounding communities were devastated by a major flood, as a result of tropical storm Agnes. At the Museum, hundreds of objects were broken, more than half of the Library?s materials were saturated with flood water, and the facility was covered with a thick layer of slime and mud. A new exhibition, The Flood of ?72: Community, Collections, and Conservation, presented at the Museum?s Rakow Research Library, chronicles the determination of Museum staff and the community to rebuild, and sheds light on the unique conservation techniques that were used to restore Library materials.

Spring flooding was fairly commonplace in the greater Corning area. In fact, a series of dikes had been built in response to the floods of 1935 and 1946. However, two additional dams had been planned, but not constructed, as of 1972. In June 1972, tropical storm Agnes brought torrential rainfall to the area and raised the Chemung River water level to 15 feet by June 22. Overnight, an additional 12 feet of water accumulated, causing the river to break through the dikes and flood into the Crystal City, submerging homes and businesses, including The Corning Museum of Glass and its Library.

The Museum was situated in the middle of the disaster area where water had surged 15 to 20 feet above the lower level on the west side of the Glass Center. By the morning of June 24, the river was back within its banks but the damage remained for much longer. Inside the Museum, the water line was 5?4? high on the walls and cases, and two inches of mud covered the floor and many of the objects and Library books. Residents and businesses had to face initial cleanup without electricity and running water, some for up to three weeks.

After the waters receded, many of the 13,000 glass objects in the Museum were covered with mud; remarkably, though, only four percent suffered damage and were in need of restoration. Books and paper materials housed within the Museum?s Library, however, were not as fortunate. The entire rare and special collection was flooded, as well as many of the browseable books, periodicals, documents, archives, images, slides, films, and audio tapes. The moisture and silt caused severe damage to the Library materials and made them vulnerable to mold and insects.

In the community, more than 6,000 people were displaced from their homes and property damage exceeded $ 230 million. Tragically, 18 individuals lost their lives. The City of Corning was extremely fortunate to have visionary leadership in government and industry, as well as an outpouring of volunteers who made the rebuilding of the community and restoration of the Museum and Library collections possible.

The exhibition The Flood of ?72: Community, Collections, and Conservation details the damage caused by the floodwaters, as well as the spirit of the community and Museum staff that drove them to rebuild. Photographs, documents, and other selected historical materials from the Library?s collection will highlight the flood, its aftermath, subsequent reconstruction, and the development of new disaster preparedness programs and conservation techniques. The exhibition, which opens on May 24, 2012, commemorates the 40th anniversary of the 1972 flood, and will remain on view through the end of 2013.

Brewster, NY (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

To meet the growing special education needs of school districts and families across the region, and address its current waiting list, Green Chimneys has added 32 day school seats for 5th ? 8th grade special education students at its Clearpool campus in Carmel, NY. Clearpool will also serve an additional 24 extended school year students in its Special Needs Summer Learning Program for ages 10-18.

This significant expansion was approved by the New York State Department of Education, following a needs assessment of 61 school districts conducted by Green Chimneys this past December. The study revealed that 69 children were in need of special education programming, 48 of whom in middle school.

?Green Chimneys is proud to have this opportunity to increase capacity and leverage our Clearpool campus to serve special needs students at such a critical stage in their emotional and academic development,? announced Green Chimneys Executive Director Joe Whalen. ?Our commitment to educating children in a safe and supportive environment, where they can learn at an appropriate pace and experience personal success, is at the core of what we do. Clearpool offers an outstanding therapeutic setting and growth-oriented activities to engage and challenge struggling middle school students in the best way possible.?

Green Chimneys Therapeutic Day School at Clearpool is designed for special needs students in 5th-8th grades who have been unsuccessful in a traditional educational setting and require a small, structured and therapeutically supportive environment. The year-round academic program meets New York State standards in a manner that is tailored to the background of these students. Small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratio (8:1) and well-trained, certified special education professionals contribute to an approach that recognizes individual learning styles and provides necessary therapeutic support – individual and group counseling, speech and language, and occupational therapy – to meet the needs of each child?s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

The new Day School program leverages Clearpool?s spectacular natural setting on 350 acres, offering countless ecological resources and extensive wildlife for exploration and discovery. An enriched educational environment incorporates a vast array of challenging and therapeutic programming such as life skills, outdoor education, experiential learning, and Green Chimneys? renowned nature-based programs that encompass animal-assisted and horticultural activities, humane education, and sustainable agriculture education. Through the use of ropes courses, orienteering, and other outdoor-based programs, students have opportunities to experience many new challenges, which ultimately leads to improved self-esteem and effort in the classroom.

?Middle school is a challenging time of life for any student, but is especially difficult for those with special needs,? said Green Chimneys School Psychologist Melissa Montera. ?Previous academic failure, social challenges, family dynamics and hormonal changes can be overwhelming. Middle school children are far more likely than elementary school kids to have psychiatric hospitalizations, experience social stigmas such as bullying, and have more serious conduct and behavioral problems like aggressiveness and self-harm. For these middle school students, a key component of the Therapeutic Day School at Clearpool is the outdoor education and adventure program, which builds confidence through mastery of activities that challenge students both mentally and physically, and creates experiences in which they can feel successful.?

The Day School and Extended School Year programs at Clearpool are the newest education programs of Green Chimneys, one of the most effective therapeutic special education schools in the country. The school?s Brewster and Carmel sites are unified by a core curriculum, central administration and an unparalleled level of expert professional support ? from social workers, teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists to experienced recreation, art and horticultural therapists ? to guide children in constructive choices and exploring their talents. This fully integrated ?treatment team? provides a comprehensive approach, intervening upon admission when a child is at his or her most fragile, and helping the child stabilize, reach his or her academic, behavioral and social potential, and return to the home school district with the best chance of success.

Green Chimneys merged with Clearpool in 2008, adding a dynamic new dimension to the Green Chimneys mission. In addition to its therapeutic day school and extended school year program, Clearpool provides an array of public education and recreation programs to school students, local families and community conservationists. Nearly 10,000 students a year from Putnam, Dutchess and Westchester Counties, and New York City participate in environmental science and experiential learning programs to enhance classroom curriculums. Exciting summer day camp programs provide over 400 local children aged 4-1/2 ? 15 with outdoor adventures, nature activities and traditional summer camp fun. Ongoing events offer families and community members a host of hands-on exploration and skill-building activities focused on environmental awareness and sustainability. In October 2011, Clearpool became the fourth Model Forest site established in the New York City Water Supply Watershed region, setting aside 264 acres of privately-owned forestland to support environmental education and forest stewardship within Putnam County.
